While the goal of Prehistoric Park is to bring extinct animals to the present, there are multiple individuals from extant species that inhabit the park as well, presumably to also preserve extant animals.

African Bush Elephant

Elephant

The African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the largest modern terrestrial animal. They made their debut in Episode 2 and appear in every other episode after that. Prehistoric Park has a herd of ten African elephants with one calf. During the events of Episode 2, Martha the woolly mammoth was introduced to the herd and the Matriarch allowed Martha to join the herd. However, in Episode 6, the Matriarch changed her mind for unknown reasons and exiled Martha from the herd. Later, during the Mass Break-OutMatilda the T. rex managed to separate the herd's only calf from the rest of the herd, but Martha, despite having been driven away earlier by the herd, instinctively defends the calf from her. Later, after all the park's escapees have been rounded up, the herd is seen grazing and has accepted Martha back into the herd.

African Sacred Ibis

A2
Flocks of African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) are seen free-roaming around the park. These birds are waders, but the ibis in the park are often seen perched in trees. They feed on various fish, frogs, small mammals, reptiles, and smaller birds as well as insects.

Blue-and-yellow Macaw

Untitled presentation (1)

A macaw is seen as a pet to Nigel Marven and a friend to the hurt Microraptor. The macaw featured on the show is the blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna). Macaws primarily eat nuts, seeds, and fruits.

Cattle Egret

Prehistoric Park has several cattle egrets (Bubulcus ibis), some of which can be seen roaming the park in the trees.

Cheetah

PP Cheetah

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) made its debut (and sole appearance) in episode 4. Nigel Marven is seen with a cheetah at the beginning of the episode. Nigel states that cheetahs are becoming endangered because they are very specialized. He draws an analogy between the Cheetah and the Smilodon, since, like the cheetah, Smilodon was equipped with a remarkable specialization. However, many cheetah populations are suffering as their specialization only suits a specific environment. Nigel wonders if this might have been a problem for the Smilodon too.

Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron-0

Some great blue herons (Ardea herodias) were seen roaming the park in trees, like the African sacred ibis and the cattle egret. The great blue herons feed mainly in shallow waters or sometimes in drier areas, mainly on fish, frogs, small mammals, and occasionally small reptiles and insects. They fly slowly, with their necks retracted. This is characteristic of herons and bitterns and distinguishes them from storks, cranes, ibises, and spoonbills, which extend their necks in flight.

Hermann's Tortoise

The Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni) is a species of tortoise native to Southern Europe. Nigel has at least one of these in his base. It can often be found wandering around on the floor and on the wooden walkways of the building.

Nile Crocodile

The Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is an African crocodilian commonly in Kenya and Egypt. Prehistoric Park has seven Nile crocodiles located in the Crocodile Lake. The Nile crocodile is the largest crocodile in Africa and is sometimes regarded as the second largest crocodilian after the saltwater crocodile. In Prehistoric Park, one of the crocodiles is a male named Henry

Red-tailed Boa

Nigel's snake-0

Nigel keeps a red-tailed boa (Boa constrictor) in his office as a pet. Most often, it can be found slithering around the room and over the various fixtures in the room. Nigel's pet boa is seen in Episode 1, where Nigel has to take it off of the pin-up map of the park.

Jackson's Chameleon

Jackson's Chameleon 2 edit1

A Jackson's chameleon (Trioceros jacksonii) was shown crawling around Nigel's base as one of his pets.

Red-Legged Seriema

The red-legged seriema (Cariama cristata) is a species of modern bird that lives in Prehistoric Park. It is thought to be the closest modern relative of the extinct Terror Bird. The seriema has a remarkable feature on its foot: a retractable, sickle-shaped toe claw, just like that of earlier maniraptorans such as Troodon. It uses this claw to kill its prey, which usually consists of small mammals, lizards, worms, and insects.

Southern Masked Weaver

Weaver-bird

A Weaver Bird making a nest.

Weavers, or weaver birds, are small passerine birds related to the finches. Several flocks of southern masked weavers (Ploceus velatus) live free at Prehistoric Park with nests the birds made. They are only seen once in the whole series in a scene in episode 4. They flew into their nests, all the while the narrator was discussing terror birds.
Western Hognose Snake
Heterodon nasicus
The western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus) is a species of nonvenomous snake endemic to North America. Nigel keeps at least one of them at his office as a pet.
