Mei long (name meaning "Sleeping Dragon") was a species of troodontid dinosaur that lived in China during the Early Cretaceous period.

Portrayal in the series[]

Mei long is depicted to be the size of a small child, standing roughly 3 feet tall (1 metre). It is shown to be intelligent, stealthy, and very opportunistic, as it was able to steal the meat Nigel's crew brought with them from under their noses. It was also depicted as a pack animal, as a group of four ambushed and attacked Ben before running away with his backpack.

Mei long is shown to have a small coat of feathers, which would have kept it warm, as well as large grasping hands, and a pair of small sickle claws. It also sleeps curled up like a ball; with its head tucked underneath it arm.

In Prehistoric Park[]

"Dinobirds"[]

Mei long made its appearance in this episode, when a pack of four individuals attacked Ben, one of Nigel's crew members, for the meat in his backpack. Before that attack, Mei had raided the campsite, shredding the sleeping bags, tents and other food bags, leaving a scratch mark on one of the tents. Later, a pack of Mei were found dead near a volcano, having suffocated by carbon dioxide in their sleep.

Errors[]

  • While Mei long in Prehistoric Park does have a feather coating on it, it does not cover the entirity of its body and it's also missing wings and a tail fan.
  • Mei long shouldn't have pronated hands. Their arms/wings were very bird-like, other than having clawed fingers. However, this mistake is common in popular media.
  • Mei long in the series were the size of a small child-about the size of Troodon. It is not out of the question that they even used the same CGI Model. In real life, Mei long was actually the size of a duck.
